  1. ORIGIN/ONYX2 SYSTEM DISK PATCH CD, 5/98 README

  4. This CD contains all of the patches that were installed on the system
  5. disk of your new system, allowing you to recreate the system disk from
  6. scratch if necessary.  For more information about what was installed on
  7. your system disk, please see the selections file, located in the
  8. /var/systemdisk directory.

  10. If your selections file is no longer available, you may find an archive
  11. on the web at:  http://www.sgi.com/Products/SystemDisk/

  13. Important Note about Patch CDs
  14. ----------------------------------
  15. You may find more than one Patch CD included with your 
  16. system.
  17.  
  18. Silicon Graphics, Inc., always includes this System Disk Patch CD,
  19. which contains the patches that we used to create your system disk.
  20. This allows you to completely recreate your system disk from the CD
  21. exactly as it was shipped from the factory, should you need to do so.
  22. Customers should reference the flyer "About your pre-installed system
  23. disk" (either in the box with your software or in the CD binder, if you
  24. recieved one), or see:  http://www.sgi.com/Products/SystemDisk/.

  26. In addition, we also include updated Recommended/Required Quarterly
  27. Patch Set CDs with your system.  Due to manufacturing constraints, we
  28. are not always able to have these latest patches installed on your
  29. system disk.  If it is important to you to have the most up-to-date
  30. patch set, you should install the patch set from the updated
  31. Recommended/Required Patch Set CD.

  33. Installation Information
  34. ------------------------
  35. The patches on this CD were pre-installed.  To recreate your system
  36. disk and install these patches, please see the instructions in the
  37. selections file.

  39. You may choose to read the release notes for products before
  40. installing them. You can now view the release notes easily
  41. from Software Manager: when you click on the product, the
  42. product name will highlight like a blue HTML link if there
  43. are release notes available. Simply click again on the link
  44. to bring up the Release Notes window.

  46. To view the release notes for patches, open a unix shell and
  47. type: 
  48. cd /CDROM/docs <Enter> 
  49. ./CDgrelnotes <Enter>
